After my baby being in SCBU and two weeks of mainly formula supplemented by nipple shielded bfing, this evening after lots of skin to skin (as recommended by all you fabulous mumsnetters) my baby finally latched on this evening without nipple shields and completely of her own accord - no tears just lots of nuzzling and then bam, she was on it!

I don't think she got tonnes of milk as she did take a formula top up straight after but it is such massive progress after being told on Friday that I would "probably end up exclusively formula feeding" for the umpteenth time! Really hopeful now that I can get things started and get my milk supply going now!

Am just so happy and needed to share - thank god for MN!

WELL DONE

MissingMyHeels · 30/03/2008 22:04

Oh and if anyone has any experience of Motilium - has it worked for you? A friend suggested it as a good way to boost milk supply?

Congratulations!

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:06

That is fantastic.
You must feel so proud!!

Have you expert advice from a bf counselor or lactation consultant on how to reduce formula feeds now> You need to be feeding as often as poss. so that you increase your supply.

MissingMyHeels · 30/03/2008 22:07

Am off to the breastfeeding clinic tomorrow morning - first time so not sure exactly what to expect but understand there are BF experts there who can hopefully help with getting her away from formula

Aitch · 30/03/2008 22:13

well done. i took motilium, i think it helped me. one of the things that buggered me up, though, was not reducing formula, so moony's right, it's worth doing that with help and advice.

PeggySioux · 30/03/2008 22:15

Awww - that is brilliant

Good luck to you both

MissingMyHeels · 31/03/2008 21:01

Thank you! I am so thrilled.

Missed the BF clinic as my kitchen flooded

She seems to only want to feed from my left breast, any ideas on how I can get her on the right? She has only had 120ml of formula today so I am working on the basis she must be getting a decent amount from me.
