Carobel/CMPA

My 8 week old is a hungry baby, had a lot of watery poos but normal colour and a snuffly nose since birth. Had him on colief as he is windy/gassy but he didn’t show many signs of discomfort after feeding, maybe a little squirmy but a burp usually sorted this out. I mentioned to my HV i was going to change to aptamil hungry baby and she suggested carobel as it thickens the formula and helps with reflux (he doesn’t spit up much so I now that I’ve looked into carobel I realise he didn’t really need to be on it), anyway, HV got carobel prescribed as I had mentioned possible silent reflux…I gave him it for 2 day and he got really unsettled and then started having mucus in his poos as well as full blow diarrhoea, stopped taking it on Friday, he has now been prescribed nutrimigen as she reckons he has milk protein allergy. We held off on the prescribed formula from Friday until today (Sunday) to see if the mucus eased up, it didn’t. My question is should I have waited another few days until the carobel was out of his system…I honestly don’t believe it’s an allergy, he doesn’t have a rash, he’s gained 5lbs since birth, and he was an otherwise healthy happy baby until carobel came along…has anyone else had this experience with carobel? Also he absolutely detests this new milk, he has screamed the place down alll day after every feed and during, it’s not like him at all :(
