Oral thrush in baby treatment not available

My baby now 6 weeks has been on nyastin for oral thrush since 3 weeks old and it doesn’t seem to be helping. Have been told miconazole oral gel which is a much better treatment is unavailable due to supplier issues!
is anyone else having this problem? Anyone’s baby had fluconazole? I am using the miconazole cream on my nipples too.

I’m having this exact problem! I’ve been through three bottle of Nystatin and it hasn’t budged her oral thrush. The doctor prescribed the oral gel but we quickly found that you can’t get it anywhere! Have you found a solution yet? My doctors said that the gel and Nystatin were the only options… can babies have fluconazole? x

@Tigertightss its so frustrating isn’t it. From what I can tell miconazole will be unavailable for a while!
Nice guidelines say babies can have fluconazole but doctors has to work out what to prescribe based on their weight.
hard to know what to do as I think we are seeing some improvement but not sure how long to give it

Hey! Have you both had any luck with this? My baby's now on his 4th bottle. I'm on fluconazole tablets and daktarin cream. It just doesn't seem to be shifting! Still no sign of the oral gel, one pharmacist told me it was now discontinued!

Hi @jusjuice I ended up getting my gp to do a swab test and it came back as not thrush! Turns out the symptoms were due to a partial tongue tie. So would recommend asking for a swab to be 100% if not already. Good luck!

@Piper89 glad you got it sorted. Waiting for results from the swab actually 🤞🏼 good to know to look out for that!

Hiya,

can I ask what symptoms they had for the tongue tie?
