Baby not settling after feeds

My baby is nearly 5 weeks and during the day/evening can be incredibly difficult to settle after feeds, he's formula fed. It's not every time but more often than not and he'll just scream! Nighttime doesn't seem to be an issue!

I thought it was wind but he does burp and even if I try and put him over my shoulder he just wriggles like crazy and as he's quite strong he just wants to chuck his head all over the place! So it can be really difficult to burp him this way if there is anything left!

We've tried rocking him, cuddling him, music, signing. He takes a dummy which sometimes works or he can spit it out and easily start screaming again.

Or is this just normal newburn behaviour?!

FTM if you can't tell!

Is he still hungry?

Strawberry06 · 24/03/2024 18:34

He has 4oz usually about 2-3 hours apart!

Allergy or still hungry? They eat absolutely LOADS that age

He could well be still hungry but I worry about over feeding him. He's already put on over a 1lb since birth. He seems to be a hungry baby though.

@Strawberry06 does sound like an allergy. Mine has a dairy intolerance and was switched to soya formula at 3 weeks but he was always like you described after a bottle of cows milk formula, as though he was in pain.

Forgot to say, I used to hold mine on my chest upright and pat his bum which I think helped with any trapped wind that he'd swallowed but didn't burp back out. Ingacol is amazing of he has trouble with trapped wind too
