Baby drinking expressed breast milk faster than formula

DS is coming up to 4 weeks and due to weight loss, problems latching and low milk supply the midwives wanted us to top him up with formula after his normal feeds

Now he's back to his birth weight I've been trying to top him up with expressed breast milk instead as he's still not getting enough from me directly.

He usually takes about 2 oz formula after his feed which takes about 15 minutes to drink but he's drinking 2oz breast milk in a couple of minutes then crying for more.

I'm not sure what I'm asking, but does anyone have any idea as to what's going on? Should I be giving him more expressed milk than I give him formula?

Hello! Breast milk is 'lighter' than formula so they can drink more of it! I would give as much expressed milk as possible and then the least amount of formula as required.
This is what I did when I had to top up to get baby's weight up :)

Good luck!

Have you sought help from a specialist infant feeding advisor/breast feeding support group?

Quickest way to up you supply is let him feed and feed feed and feed. You will never express off as much as he would drink directly. Not to mention expressing is quite a bit of work.
