BF with formula top ups - 6 week old

Hi all,

Six week old seems to want to be on the boob every 1-2h.
I've attached a pic of what the last 24h of feeds look like (the volume in mL is where I've given formula - currently on a slow weaning plan).

I guess I just wanted some views as to whether this is normal! I seem to read a lot about babies going 3-4h between feeds, especially at night.

Thank you in advance :)

Hiya. Yep this is normal, especially this early on. It’s all part of building up your milk supply, but also a mixture of seeking comfort and having small tummies. It will settle down after a while.
Do you mind me asking why you are topping up? If it’s to help with weight gain then even more likely baby is just trying to increase your milk supply by feeding often.
In the meantime might be worth offering both boobs at each feed if you aren’t already to make sure they’ve had their fill.
good luck - these first few months are tough when breastfeeding but I promise it gets easier!

@LottSE20 thank you!
It just feels insane that she wants to eat 24/7, the nights are so tough.

We started top ups at 5 days because her weight dropped and she had dehydration. We really struggled with latching and feeding so before I knew it, she was on a large volume of formula. Managed to work on this and reducing gradually - hopefully to a stop in around 4 weeks.

It is so tough - just because it’s normal
doesn’t mean it’s not bloody hard! Sounds like you are doing a brilliant job though - hang in there if you can and it will ease up before you know it x
