Newborn formula overfeeding

Looking for advise
3 day old boy who weighed in at 9lbs 6oz.
Formula fed as unfortunately issues with breastfeeding.
I've been advised by midwife that he's to feed aprox 2 oz ever 3-4 hours however he wants so much more than this.

He guzzled 4oz at his last feed and wasn't happy until he drained that much regardless of paced feeding.

Should I let him eat this much?

Thanks

If he wants it and he's not vomiting it up afterwards id say it's fine

I'd get hold of an IBCLC. Even if you're not BF, they can advise on formula feeding

I wouldn't worry too much about this. I've had two babies on formula since birth and they've both done this, the amount they've wanted and the time between feeds has never matched up to what the midwife or Google or even the formula tin said.

With my second baby she drank a crazy amount around weeks 2-4, I gave her what she wanted and when she was weighed at 6 weeks she was still on track, she hadn't jumped up on the centile chart so I knew then that I'd given her what she needed even though it seemed like a lot at the time and would have gone against the recommended maximum amount. They go through lots of short growth spurts in the first 12 weeks where they will drink absolutely loads for a few days and then less suddenly.

The only thing to look out for is lots of spit up/vomit, often their stomach will reject it if it's too much. I still wouldn't worry though, I remember my first specifically when she was under a week old drinking 3/4 oz as well and it panicked me a bit but was totally fine and clearly what she needed.

Congrats on your baby!

You're not overfeeding him.

My DDs were around the same weight at birth and formula fed. They had 4 oz bottles almost right from the word go. In fact, DD2 guzzled a full 4 oz at around 11pm on her very first night. They were soon on 6 or 8 oz every 3 or 4 hours (or more frequently if they demanded) and no issues.

Feed him what he wants when he wants it. On demand feeding applies to formula fed babies too.
