Stopping Breastfeeding....sore boobs?

Hello. I just stopped feeding my 15 month old on Friday - I was only feeding him morning and night and have decided I want to buy a decent bra...so have stopped cold turkey (otherwise I don't think I would have done it as I love it so much). He's always refused a bottle or a dummy or anything other than me.

He seems to be taking it remarkably well - not a whimper! He still spends a lot of his time with his hand jammed down my bra as before but hasn't even tried to get a nipple and has been going down like a dream. So that was easier than I thought.

However....my boobs are really sore - I expected it. When my now-3year old weaned himself at 5 months (he preferred a bottle) he did it gradually and I don't remember any discomfort.

Since I've perhaps unwisely gone straight from 2 feeds to nothing....it might be my own fault...but...(sorry I'm waffling) I wondered if anyone could tell me how long it will take for them to stop hurting and what I can do to maybe alieviate the pain?

Much appreciated!

Sallyre

I believe that Sudafed is very good at drying up milk. Just keep an eye that you get don't engorged and risk mastitis - you might have to hand express off a little bit just to ease your comfort. Well done to you and your little one for making such a sucessful transisiton too.

Aha...I have sudafed in the house. I was worried about expressing a bit in case it meant the milk wouldn't stop - but I might try a little bit now to ease the pressure! Actually it's a bit better this evenind and once again he went down like a dream....

Thanks for the advice Jenkey
