Milk down since weaning

Hey All, my LO (6mo)is rejecting the notion of milk since we started weaning.
She barely makes 450/500ml a day now but has 3 meals solid food a day.
How can I encourage her to drink more? Am worried she will not have enough liquid for development and is already only 25th centile.Confused

Hi
I had the same problem with my little one and was going out of my mind with worry!
my HV told me as long as she is eating well don’t worry.
my lo is having between 300-400ml a day and some days only 200ml.
she has 3 meals a day and drinks water with them.
for peace of mind I was having her weighted regularly and she’s doing well! She’s 7 and a half months now 😊

Are you offering her drinks throughout the day ? as well as a drink with her meals.

motherofbantams · 15/02/2024 19:24

That is good to know - we are at maybe 400, and there is milk in food. I offer her water and milk - she has 4 different cups but not a fan of any of them!

3 meals is too much for a 6 month old. I was told by the dietitian to move to 3 meals when they reach 9 months old.

We use https://www.tumtumtots.com/collections/cups
only cup she’ll use

and then we follow the mummy cooks book which is 3 meals from 6 months increasing in size with age 😊

How do you teach them to use a straw? Thanks!!

@motherofbantams my lo just took to it but I see people putting yogurt or purée on the straw to help teach them 😊

Wondering - she is now on BM only as upped my supply. This means she has no reflux so I stopped Gaviscon. Is a lot runnier. Do you think that means she enjoys it less?

Oh ok. Have you tried reducing the solids and see in if that has an effect? The NHS advice is to build up to offering solids 3 times a day between 8 and 9 months.

Patriciamcpat · 21/02/2024 11:09

@motherofbantams try a few drops of vanilla essence (the one with no alcohol) in your bm I hear a few do that with there expressed bm

motherofbantams · 21/02/2024 11:11
