Hello all
I breastfed exclusively for just over four months and have for the last 4 weeks or so been introducing formula as i am due to return to work - expressing at work is not an option for me. Initially it was successful with DD taking to ff well, however only really having half her feed before pushing away the bottle and refusing any more. She does very occasionally finish the 210 mls made up for her. I thought this might be all she needed but the last couple of times that i have fed her she has then tried to latch on to me through my clothes and i have ended up breast feeding her, so she is obviously still hungry. I obviously don't mind doing this but is it going to encourage her to have only half her feed and then expect to bf afterwards for all her feeds? I am trying to let my supply decrease slowly and am also worried this will undo my good work.
DD is 23 weeks and still feeding through the night, i have introduced a dream feed which has cut down the feeding to once some time between 11 and 6. I need to drop this feed before i return to work and also as i am totally exhausted.
It's been quite hard to change from feeding on demand to a establishing a routine but we are getting there. Currently i bf at night and at 6 am, ff 10am and 2 pm, bf at 5pm and ff at 7 and 10. I use Aptamil, and i know she certainly prefers the cartons to the powder. Could it be a taste issue? Is it worth trying a different formula?
I guess my main worry is that by bfing more often that she will eventually refuse formula. Has any one experienced this?
Sorry it's long, but i wanted to include as much as i could, any advice would be much appreciated. I intend to bf for another month or so but then would like to stop.
Many thanks
