When to drop to 4 bottles

DD is 4.5 months old and my mum keeps going on that when I was 5 months they had me on 4x8oz bottles (32oz). Then again the advice when I was young was to wean at 4 months but know I wasn't introduced to weaning until 5.5monts

She is 15lb 12.5oz

DD currently gets
6am 7oz
10am 5oz attempted to up this to 7oz as she was draining it but then didn't finish her 1pm bottle
1pm 7oz
4:30pm 7oz
7:30pm 7oz
Total: 33oz

My brain is fried as the box (which I know is a guide) says 5 feeds of 7oz in 24hrs until 6 months.

Thank you for any kind words of wisdom 💖

Honestly I wouldn't sweat it.

We were on a similar schedule: 5 x bottles between about 6:30am and 7pm. My DD started nursery early and the v experienced ladies said it was a suitable routine.

I can't even remember when we dropped to 4 bottles but I think it may have been when we started giving her breakfast (ie porridge). If your baby is happy I don't think you need to change anything

I've also got a 4.5 month old and am wondering the same! We're just coming out of the regression (🤞) and this morning she slept till 715 which was incredible after 4 weeks of little sleep. However I didn't know what to do about bottles as she's been having 7oz every 3.5 hours starting at 4/5am and there's not enough time in the day for that now! She's been draining 7oz bottles the last few days so I'm considering offering 8oz x 4 if she carries on sleeping through.

Honestly I think you can ignore what it says on the formula tin, my eldest had 7 bottles a day till she was 6 months, whereas this baby went down to 5/6 ages ago. They're all different. You can always try 4 and see what happens, then go back to 5 if it seems too soon. We had to go back up to 6 briefly a fortnight ago and now back to 5.

Don't know about bottles but I moved from feeding on demand to 4 a day at about 7 months when weaning was kicking in. Was definitely more than that at 4.5 months.

IMO the more calories you can get into them in the daytime that age, the better - it all helps them get through the night without night feeds. We didn't drop down to four bottles until he went from three to two naps, which was about 8 or 9 months old.

Oh and the amounts on the boxes are totally made up, I don't think anybody goes by those!

Mine were on 5 until about 8 months. Be guided by your child

Remember breastfed babies are mostly just fed on demand at that age, mine were still on at least 8 feeds a day at that age, no measuring. As long as your baby is growing at the right speed then not sweat it, babies tell you what they need
