Doctor prescribed cmpa milk but I am unsure if she has allergy

Hi. My 8 week old has been suffering from what the HV told me was reflux for a few weeks now. She takes her bottle fine (gulps them down) but then after the bottle and for the following hours she screams in agony and brings up the milk when she lies down. I tried carobel and gaviscon but they caused constipation and she was still crying. A friend suggested I ask dr about omeprozole but when onto the dr (via phone) he said she has CMPA and prescribed neocate lcp. However she does not display any allergy symptoms eg, rash, muscussy poo, fussing over bottle etc now I am scared that she is taking this milk and does not need it. Any opinions/advice greatly appreciated for a worried FTM

Usually it’s good to do a trial with the cmpa milk, once you’ve swapped her over (which can be a nightmare in itself as they taste HORRIBLE) see how her symptoms are for 2 weeks. If no improvements then go back to the drs xx

Thank you for the reply. She switched yesterday and is still drinking the bottle ok (a few strange faces due to the taste lol). i was just worried about her being on this milk if she didnt need to be but trial and error I suppose

oh that’s great she took it! My little girl was VERY reluctant. Yes definitely, it won’t do her any harm at all, it had all the same nutrients she needs xx

If it's non-ige CMPA the only way to diagnose is to try the milk and see if her symptoms improve Wink

My baby was given special milk for a CMPA but it turned out he didn't have a CMPA in the end. It didn't do him any harm to have the milk though, so don't worry about that. He took Omeprazole which helped to stop the burning sensation for him.
