Cluster feeding worried about overfeeding

DD is 4 weeks and appears to be cluster feeding. She seems constantly hungry (FF). Tonight she had 5oz, then an hour and a half later another 4oz, then an hour later she’s had another 4oz! I’m really worried about over feeding. We’ve always fed on demand and just give what she will have but how do I feed on demand / cluster feed without overfeeding and what’s a normal amount?

Look up and try paced feeding 😊 sometimes this allows time for their brain to register they are full as it is a slower way to feed. At this age the sucking reflex is involuntary so over feeding is possible.

I asked my health visitor a similar question as my then 6 week old was sometimes having 7oz in one go (and then wanted more 2 hours later)! The health visitor said you can't really overfeed them at this age (unless you try and carry on feeding them after they don't want any more) and if you do overfeed them it will just come back up again. Your DD could just be going through a growth spurt at the moment.

I find if I think my DD is drinking a lot very quickly, taking the bottle out and burping her sometimes means she realises she's full and doesn't want any more.

But if in any doubt, ask your health visitor about it.
