AF affecting BF????

My AF has come back with a vengence. DS is only 6 months next week and is fully breast-fed. I started giving him some solids a few weeks back, but he's not having much and still breast-feeds often, so I'm surprised that my AF has come back so soon.

However, point of thread!

Has anyone noticed a difference in feeding once AF has come back. DS doesn't seem as if he likes feeding as much and takes a lot of encouragement to latch on. Yesterday he didnt' really feed at all from first thing until 2pm.

My Mum says my sister went off breast-feeding when her AF came back, so I'm really hoping that's not happening to me.

Anyone else had this? Really don't want to move to bottle-feeding just yet, but also don't want DS to suffer because he's not feeding enough.

I think it's right that the milk can change taste when you have your AF and can affect feeding - along the same lines (though to a lesser extent) as when you are pg and bfeeding. I'm only on my first AF with ds2 now, and haven't noticed any change - but hopefully someone may be along soon who has.

sorry for being a bit dumb, but what is AF?

AF stands for Aunty Flo... as in menstrual flow. So when someone says Aunty Flo is coming to stay...

I wasn't aware of any changes with DS. But with DD my periods came back last month and I got bitten at every feed. I'm just waiting to see if, when the arrive soon, the same happens this month [scared emoticon!].

I think it's quite a common occurrence for them to go off you for the first day or so as there may be a change in taste and IME speed of letdown. The rest of the month has been no different for us (except DD started sleeping better... still waiting to see if that's a side effect of a cycle!).

Thanks!

Suzi - interestingly I was bitten for the first time this afternoon (no teeth yet, but it still hurt!!!). I'll look forward to the more sleeping bit then next week, shall I?!

Hope the biting doesn't continue for you!

If he does sleep there will be something in it! My DS went from atrocious sleeper to half decent sleeper about a month after my first AF. And DD appears to be the same! Bet I've jinxed that now I've said it though...
