5 week old - 6oz every 4 or 5 hours!?

Hi,

I am a ftm and my baby is 5 weeks old tomorrow. She was quite big born at 9lb 7oz two weeks early. She’s formula fed as I had to stop breast feeding and was having 5oz from 2 weeks every 4 hours. We noticed this week she was still hungry after her feeds and have upped her to 6oz. The formula box says she should only be having 5 feeds in a 24hr period which would mean she is feeding every 5 hours (when she was having 5oz she was feeding every 4 hours which was 6 bottles in a 24hr period) - so she’s technically not actually having any more milk!!

She seems to be settled after her 6oz and has gone the five hours without fussing and drinks her bottle nicely when given. I’ve been told by family members that she’s too young to go every five hours and just wanted advice on this?! She would definitely let us know she’s hungry and has quite the set of lungs on her!

I just wanted to know what others thought and if every 5 hours is too long, and whether I should be giving her 6oz every 4 hours even if she isn’t crying for her bottle etc.

As my my mum told me ...never wake a sleeping baby.

Your baby is settled, taking bottles well and I'm sure will let you knownif they are hungry!

I agree with @FuppinNora.never wake a sleeping baby. I have dd 2 weeks old and I'm breast feeding. Hv said I should be waking her every 3-4 hours but I don't. I wait still she wakes up. I've been the same with my other 3 children.
