Expressing - should you do both boobs or just one boob twice?

I express every night at about 10pm for a bottle for DS the following night. He's a bit unpredictable whether he wakes at 10/11ish or if he sleeps until around 2am. I usually express from the breast that has had the longest break from DS and get 3oz then I wait 10 mins and express the same breast again and get another 1/1.5oz so that's a 4/4.5oz bottle done. My thinking is that I've got the foremilk and the hindmilk from doing it that way but for a higher yield should I express the other breast as well? I'm just worried that DS will wake up for a feed just after I've expressed and I'll have nothing left for him?

Also, if I switch breast will that mess up the formilk/hindmilk thing?

some of the milk you get 10 mins later is wot your breast has just made in that 10 minute break. please don't stress out about foremilk, hindmilk.

I expressed for dd when i went back to work for over 12 months as she is allergic to cow's milk and egg and probably why she weaned slowly.

i loved watching that milk come 10 mins later. I used to express from both sides at least once a night and if she woke up - and she did sometimes whilst pumping - i just put her straight on. she may have fed a little longer to get what she wanted but I imagined it also boosted my supply if for a short time as your body responds to the extra milk removal by making more milk.
