What's been your experience of taking this? And where did you get a prescription for it?

My dd1 was on that and omeprazole. It was great and sorted out her reflux issues. I got a prescription from my GP

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 03/12/2023 13:58

Have you got a prescription yet @riasinha? Do you need any more support? Wink

Batlady78 · 03/12/2023 14:03

I used to take this in tablet form (as an adult) and it was bloody amazing stuff! Literally used to call them magic tablets. Then they stopped selling them otc.

oki · 03/12/2023 14:42

I had to get a prescription from the GP. It nothing to improve my milk supply.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 03/12/2023 16:06

Are you wanting to take it to increase milk supply or for acid reflux @riasinha?

riasinha · 04/12/2023 11:36

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto I wanted to take it to try and increase my milk supply. Not sure if there are private doctors who can prescribe this? My GP doesn't do it

I used it when I had to pump exclusively. Where I lived at the time had it as an OTC medicine. It was very effective actually.

Fraaahnces · 04/12/2023 14:41

I tried this with my first. It didn’t work. Two years later when I had my twins, the lactation consultant came in on day 6 and noticed that my boobs were the wrong shape for someone who should have been having their milk come through. She asked about my breast growth during pregnancy -(none) and whether I felt the let-down (nope). She organised an ultrasound and it turned out that I had a grand total of four milk ducts when most people have at least 36 in each boob. So DD1 probably didn’t have reflux. Poor kid was starving. I would never have fed two on that.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 04/12/2023 19:36

@riasinha I don't know what you've tried already, probably a lot if different things. Are you getting any RL supportt*?

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 04/12/2023 19:37

@Fraaahnces your Lactation Consultant sounds really very good.

Torganer · 04/12/2023 19:45

@Fraaahnces i had exactly the same issue. My lactation consultant (nhs free), was amazing. I tried everything, including domperidone. Nothing worked for me sadly. I carried on pumping/feeding/bottle for 6m and it nearly killed me! If I have another, I won’t be doing that again!!

Fraaahnces · 05/12/2023 01:23

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto and @Torganer According to the neurologist I saw many years later for migraines, he looked at the pattern of scattered ischaemic scars all through my brain and then asked about BF, this is very common for people my age (51) whose mothers smoked heavily during pregnancy. Probably DNA damage. Thanks mum.

Lord knows what damage vaping is doing. Lots of Women give up smoking when they become PG nowadays, although I appreciate that a fair few don't. I wonder how many carry on because they think that vaping is safer?

I was offered this with DD1 (although i didnt take it in the end as i couldnt find a lot of positive stories about its success) but was told only the infant feeding team through the hospital could sort it, by writing a letter to my GP to instruct them to issue off label. So if you can get referred to them, they might be able to help. My HV referred me

BlowingAway · 05/12/2023 07:38

I was prescribed it, I think by the midwife. It was some years ago. I think it did work.

Torganer · 05/12/2023 10:11

@Fraaahnces

Thats interesting. I’m over 10yrs younger and my mother has never smoked in her life! I didn’t have an ultrasound so don’t know how many ducts I have, just I wasn’t producing enough.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 05/12/2023 16:22

@riasinha how are you both today? Have you managed to get a prescription yet or speak to a Lactation Consultant?

Boredanddejected · 05/12/2023 16:31

I took it for complete failure of lactation with DD1. Made not a jot of difference I’m afraid

Katela18 · 05/12/2023 18:01

I used it for milk supply when I was exclusively pumping as my baby was prem and tube fed. It worked for me. The GP did my prescription but I did have a note from the NICU consultant paediatrician too x

idontlikealdi · 05/12/2023 18:16

I took it 12 years ago when Dts were prem. did nothing. Dts also had it for reflux but I believe it is not prescribed for that anymore.

Desolatewardrobe · 05/12/2023 18:22

I had high dose domperidone that my GP was luckily prepared to prescribe at the request of a lactation consultant. It did help. The other thing I used was goat’s rue, which is meant to promote the growth of breast tissue, as I also had breast hypoplasia. The two together did help but I still had to mix feed.

toomanyleggings · 05/12/2023 18:34

Just gave me diarrhoea really. Then I had a starving, screaming baby and the runs.
I think it depends on your issues really. Domperidone will make the glandular tissue you have work better but it won’t make more glandular tissue. I had insufficient glandular tissue so I was never going to be able to exclusively breastfeed. It was easier with my second because I knew my limitations so I just let her suckle a little for closeness and the tiny amounts of bm I had and then gave her her bottle. Much better than the horrendous pumping ( 2ml at a time), breastfeeding, bottle feeding cycle I got myself trapped in first time

Fraaahnces · 06/12/2023 00:07

@Torganer - I think the neurologist mentioned the BF in combination with the scars in my brain. He said that it will probably be given a “Syndrome” name one day.

riasinha · 08/12/2023 12:01

Hiya, Yes i've seen a Lactation Consultant, and she suggested trying domperidone. So i'm trying to find a private doctor who may prescribe x

Hi, I'm sorry to jump in but this is fascinating! I also have IGT diagnosed by an excellent IBCLC but I didn't know you could get a scan. I have classic hypoplasia, she diagnosed me instantly. Heart breaking on baby one, but at least I was forewarned on 2 so just comfort fed, pumped and was fully FF by 12 weeks. Kids are strapping teens now! Bur I'd love more information, just for myself. I'm 52 and mum was a heavy smoker but gave it up when she fell pregnant. All my female relatives BF.
