Gaviscon + Reflux Help?

My LO has been struggling with her feeds since about 3 weeks of age, shes 7 weeks now and shes progressively been getting fussier and fussier on the bottle, sometimes having full on breakdowns and choking on the milk and gasping and causing herself to panic more so. She takes in about an ounce and then pulls off the bottle and refuses to drink more only to get hungry again 30 minutes to an hour later, at this age she should be taking in i feel minimum 3 ounces, she was 4.3kg last i had her weighed. My HV prescribed infant gaviscon a week ago after observing one of her feeds, and i was wondering when will it kick in? I had high hopes as the first few days on it she was definitely making an improvement with her feeds, taking in a whopping 4.5oz in one sitting at one time but yesterday she just went back to square 1 in terms of feedings and being unsettled as well due to it, i decided to stop giving her the gaviscon as i worried maybe it was causing stomach issues, she was pooping still just little and often throughout the day so wasnt constipated per say. Reading up, ive heard to give it time to work so should i try her again on it would you guys think?

I wouldn't give it to her either @Husna7899. It doesn't work for lots of babies.

Which milk is she in and have you tried her with a comfort milk?

She was on regular aptamil then hv advised aptamil comfort so been on that for 3 weeks now. The GP have said to trial her this one more week on gaviscon and its making a difference for sure, shes not constipated either so im gonna push for them to prescribe more. I think also making the switch to mam size 0 teats has helped even though her formulas thick due to comfort and gaviscon it seems to be the right flow for her as any teat size up she is clicking at the bottle and gulping away like flows too fast but at size 0 she drinks it calmly and quietly no clicks no gulps. There is still an issue of fussiness in general but there is improvement.

Clicking could be a sign of Tongue Tie. Does she have any of these symptoms? Flowers

As PP mentioned clicking and reflux sounds like tongue tie. Get her checked by a qualified professional not a HV or GP. If you are formula feeding the NHS aren’t always great at supporting even though it definitely causes issues in FF babies so you may need to find a private practitioner.

HV and GP both said no so i assumed not, and if it was tongue tie she would be clicking no matter the flow, correct? The slower the flow is the less her clicking is and if u put her on the slowest flow it disappears entirely

HV and GO are probably not able to spit a TT, even if it was really obvious. Ice even seen posters on MN say they've missed a lip tie.

If your LO has the symptoms in the link I posted, I'd talk to a Tongue Tie Practitioner Wink
