Baby accepts bottle but doesn’t suck properly

Hi,

DD is 4 months and has been EBF. We’ve been trying to gradually introduce a bottle of breast milk for about 6 weeks now and she’s gone from flat refusal to accepting it in her mouth and trying to feed from it. She put her little hands round mine and pulls it into her mouth when she wants it which is great. The issue is she just doesn’t get how to suck from the teat. I can see her tongue working the teat and her gumming it but she just hasn’t grasped latching and sucking like she does with the breast. consequently it take about 25 mins for her to have 15ml and she then just gets frustrated.

does anybody have any tips? She’s so close!
thanks

I never, ever got mine to figure a bottle out so I'm probably the wrong person to ask but have you tried cup feeding instead? Mine would accep a cup which meant I couple leave them for longer.

Hey, what teats are you using? Lanisnoh teats are very good for breastfed babies, they fit the Lanisnoh bottles and will fit wit MAM bottles.

Maybe have little one checked for tongue tie if you haven't already x

Thank you. We have tried a bit of cup feeding with a bit of success actually so perhaps I’ll persist with that. She gets a bit overwhelmed by it but I should probably take it steadier.

And thanks for the Lanisoh recommendation. That must be the one teat we haven’t tried so may give it a go.

Good luck, I hope you find something to help your little girl 💕

Try a sippy cup or try giving her sn open cup in the bath. That way, if she tips it over herself it doesn't matter Wink

success! After several months trying with a bottle, turns out she’d rather lap it up out of a little cup. We’ve just been using one of the MAM bottle caps. It’s messy it seems to be doing the trick. Thanks for the help
