What are the effects of ammoxoycillin on breastmilk?

Hi

Sorry another breastfeeding question!

I've been prescribed ammoxoycillin for an infection and was wondering what the effect was on breastmilk?
I know that it will go through to the milk at some point but wondered what the actual problems will be?

My DD is only 2 weeks old and so I want to limited the amount of antibiotics she would get.

Also do you know of any good remedies for a UTI? (Or shall I post this in health )

Thanks

Lu

I took the same whilst breast feeding the doc dodnt warn me that it could upset the my baby, it did make her a bit grumpy but I had to finish the course of drugs. That is not to say yours will be that same, hope it all goes well.

My dd had a rash when I was on it - it was never agreed by gP and health visitor to be the cause. Rash vanished, she has had antibiotics twice herself. She is 14!

I had that plus something really hefty for a post-childbirth infection with dd1 - at a similar age to your baby. It made her nappies rather runny and she didn't gain much that week but we were soon back on track. With dd3 I had it for mastitis when she was 8 months - it seemed to have no effect on her whatsoever.

Hi I took amoxycillin lots of time while bfeeding (I had an infected toe nail that wouldn't heal) and didn't notice anything different in my babies' behaviour. Mind you they were both older than 2 weeks.

Is UTI the same as cystitis? With cystitis is recommended to drink load, esp cranberry juice. You can take paracetamol to ease the pain.

I had a UTI when ds was 4 - 5 weeks. Took that antibiotic, ad no effect on him at all tho I was warned it could make his poo runny (what, runnier than it already is?).

Some will get into the milk I think, but most antibiotics are not contraindicated while breast feeding.

Hope you feel better soon!
