Background

LB is 12 weeks on Tuesday. He was 9lb 4oz born and 14lb 14.5lb at last weigh last week. So he is a big boy.

He’s never had the biggest appetite though more of a grazer and was initially feeding 2-3oz every 1.5-2hrs up until about 8 weeks.

Around 8-10 weeks started doing 5-6oz every 3-4hrs.

we have an app in December for tongue tie assessment as this is also suspected.

issue.

so from Monday he has a bout of gastroenteritis (likely caught of my 2yr) couldn’t keep anything down for about 3 days. Took him doctors twice he was and is still however extremely happy in himself smiling laughing etc like this even when ill.

no longer vomiting from Thursday. Thought it would take a few days to settle but now he just does not seem interested in his milk at all. Doesnt really shout or ask he can go upto 4hrs without asking. I don’t like letting him go longer than this so will offer 5oz but he’s yet to take more than 3-4oz mostly. again is extremely happy and full of smiles. Wet and dirty nappies.

he seems to have settled on 4oz 3-4hourly. Is this ok for a baby his age/size. I’m terrified he’s not feeding enough?

I am taking him weigh in clinic on Thursday to check where we stand.

So how much formula do you think he's had in the last 24 hours @Hickpusher2022?

Hickpusher2022 · 04/11/2023 22:37

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto well this week he’s really dropped obv with being so ill he only took 8oz in 24hrs. but probably since Thursday he’s had between 15-20oz in 24hr.

I feel abit encouraged today as I’ve upped the teat size as I felt he was getting fed up and that’s why he stopped feeding and he’s finished 2 full 5oz bottles 🤞🏼 I’m a little cautious as he’s now on size 3 teats which are 6m+ but he doesn’t seem to be struggling it’s not too fast it’s not dribbling no choking etc. so will see. it brings us to 25oz for 24hrs.

25 floz is fine for 14 lbs. A little low but only by 5 floz and it's only a guideline and he's been poorly, so that does affect feeding.

I'd offer keep the fast flow test and offer a bottle every 3 hours tomorrow in the day and see how you get on Flowers

I think the main concern is if he’s dehydrated. If he’s still taking milk and looks happy enough with wet nappies you’re probably fine. If it doesn’t improve there’s no harm in going back to the doctor.

@Hickpusher2022 just wanted to reassure you, my little one was on number 3 twats for 6mo+ from 8 weeks old as he was just fed up with the slower flows so try not to worry as long as he's not vomiting it back up. I found mine took in way less air too so wasn't in so much discomfort with trapped wind

Teats that is, bloody autocorrect 🙄🫣

It just makes it look like I'm always calling people that now, god I hate autocorrect 🤣

@Devilsmommy 🤣 gave me a giggle.

yes he does seem a lot better this morning from the size 3s took 6oz at 3am and 5oz just now and he never takes more than 2-3 oz for his first bottle so 🤞🏼 x

@Hickpusher2022 well at least I gave a few laughs 😅 sounds like it was probably the teat size anyway if he's suddenly taking more milk. Glad it's getting better ☺️
