Think my Avent IQ steriliser is broken, it switches on but I get a number eight on the display and it wont heat up or go through the normal sterilise cycle.

Can anyone help me?? The Avent help line is only open Mon- Fri, how helpful!!!

How old is your youngest?

Have yuo got a dishwasher? That works just as well.

How old is your baby?

you can boil bottles n teats in a saucepan if you just need them strelisided

barbamama · 09/03/2008 20:04

I think from memory the number 8 means either there is too little or too much water in it?

Try emptying it, wiping it out and start again with exactly the right amount from the dispenser.

You can download the manuals from the Avent website which will tell you exactly what that code means.

Either boil the bottles as already suggested or you can use Milton Sterilising fluid or tablets (follow instructions on the bottle/packet). That's what was used before sterilisers were invented and I've used this method on holiday a few times.

Baby is nine months so on the verge of not needing it anyway but GOD shouldn't these things last longer than a couple of years?!? It's not like we used it full time for either child :-(

Has anyone had this same problem with theirs?

Have looked at my manual for it and it's not the sign for not enough or too much water. The manual says nothing about the number eight symbol.

I get numbers when I fill it twice by mistake or turn it on without putting any in. It won't work until you put the normal amount of water in. I think I have had to unplug it to reset it sometimes. Mine is on dc2 and has been used a lot (dc1 not dc2!).

barbamama · 09/03/2008 20:13

oh maybe not good then!

barbamama · 09/03/2008 20:14

Needs descaling maybe?

barbamama · 09/03/2008 20:18

Sorry, I'm not helping, just realised you can't descale it if you cant turn it on and have checked with dp who is in charge of sterilising and it is letters we get not numbers....

WanderingTrooley · 09/03/2008 20:25

Can't help with the sterilizer, but at 9months you don't really need it. If you're worried, give everything a good scrub 'n boil.
