Baby has a fever and a cold

My baby (6 months in 3 days) has been ill since the weekend. What started with a mild cold has worsened. I went to the GP yesterday and shes given antibiotics as a delayed prescription incase he gets worsened symptoms. Ive started the anti biotics this morning since hes had a very bad night crying ( screaming non stop) a few times in the night and this morning he developed a high temperature of 38.3. Last time I checked it was 37.8 so it has gone down slightly but still high. He's not been his usual self at all, he tried to play this morning a little and has drank 1 bottle of 6oz feed and had 2 Oz in the night. Less than usual. I spoke with the doctor today and she said to keep checking his temp and if it doesn't go down to go to the A&E and if he doesn't drink properly. She knows he hasn't been drinking his usual amount but said check if he improves. By 1pm, my baby has somewhere around 12-16oz. He usually sleeps all night but of course as said, last night he woke up and drank 2oz. So far he's drank around 8oz. Whilst he sleeps, I'm going to offer another 6oz.

Ive been given good advice so far by the receptionists who are mothers at the GP. I just would like any more advice please if you could. How can I get his temperature down further and what else can I do to help? I've been giving Calpol, antibiotics, nasal spray, snot sucker, Vicks, calpol plug in and the drops to relieve congestion at night. He cries himself to sleep every time he naps. I wish I could do more to help.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Anything, what do you normally do when your baby has a cold or flu? What helps? Thank you in advance!

GP has advised to go the AnE if he doesn't improve with his drinking or temp doesn't go down within the next 24 hours **

If calpol isn't bringing his temp down, try nurofen, if that doesn't work then I'd take him to get checked at the hospital if it was me

How is he now @Heybear23?

@crankit thank you for the advice! Calpol worked

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto thank you for the reply! He's much better now. 2 days ago he wasn't himself at all and drank half his usual intake. Yesterday was better and today much better. Still coughing however. Drinking much better but still trying to encourage him to take more like before and started blw which he loves!
