Hi. we are going on holidays in june with DS (3) and DD (will be 8 months).
I have her on formula at the mo. Just wondering if there is any advise re making it up on holidays. We are going to portugal so i dont think we can use local water, will bottled do for the week, boiling it and cooling it etc. Grateful for advice and experience!

Hi when we went to spain with Ds1 (11mth at the time) our doc and HV told us to just use tap water boiled like you do at home, and he was fine xx

Bottled water never used to be recommended for formula because of the high salt content.

Do they still do ready made milk in the cartons? That's what we used to use on holiday.

Thanks a mill. I heard somewhwere Evian water was uaseable but not sure why, maybe mineral content different to other bottled water but dont want to take the risk!
Ready made is still available but would be bulky to bring enough for a week, or maybe we could buy it over, dont know if cow and gate available in portugal??
I suppose safest options is using local water or readuy made!

Evian is lower in sodium but boiled drinking water is fine. Their babies seem to survive ! You would only be able to take ready made cartons in suitcase or have to buy single feed size after security.

We also took cartons away with us because then you know you will be ok to be out allday and not have to worry about making feeds up....and on the way home you can stock up with duty free with the extra weight you have in your case that was took up with cartons

in spain i have always just boiled the tap water.

cartons are handy though - if you are stuck at the airport / out and about when you can't be sure of the boiled water (like if it has been stuck in an urn or boiled a zillion times in a restaurant!!)

in spain most of the formula was nestle IIRC.
