My dd is 6.5 mo and I am considering it but am undecided as whether to do it...

I haven't finished yet and don't intend to for a long time (hoping to allow dd to self-wean) although teeth are providing me with new and 'interesting' problems ...

dd3 is the only dc that i have managed to successfully breastfeed and i'm loving it!

suzi2 · 07/03/2008 22:17

bluenosesaint we're having teeth challenges here too. TBH, I thought I'd be stopping a few weeks ago due to biting but we're stil getting there. I get a bit jumpy when feeding though

LyraSilvertongue · 07/03/2008 22:19

bluenosesaint, i withdrew the breast when Ds1 bit me. He soon learned if he bit he got no milk.

FF doesn't necessarily guarentee a sleep through... Why do so many people think this? My dd was only bf and slept through eventually consistently at 6 -7 months.
BTW I am not citicising at all, just asking!
I was advised by lots of friends when dd wasn't sleeping through to try the bottle at night but persisted and eventually she just did it, it wasn't easy though having friends being smug with their bright eyed morning faces!

i am still bf-ds is nearly 1, but he still likes it when sleepy or poorly. when dh is here at bedtime, he just whisks the baby off with no bf and he goes to sleep without.. he does nip, but giggles just before, so if i am paying attention i can move away.

i want to stop when he is 1- to wear a proper bra, how selfish of me not sure how, so will be on mn soon...

I haven't yet, because dd isn't ready. She's 2yrs 1mo.

bluenosesaint · 07/03/2008 23:33

Thanks Suzi and Lyra

She's bitten me a couple of times (enough to make me cry!) over the last month or so, i even made her howl because i cried out so loudly

...tends to be the nightfeeds when i'm barely awake tbh ...she seems to like catching me off guard

mrsruffallo · 07/03/2008 23:48

Stopped at 18 months with both, just seemed right for both of us

onelittlelion · 07/03/2008 23:50

Is it when she falls asleep too mayb as when ds falls asleep occasionally his jaws clamp shut...ouch! I am still feeding ds at 20 months as he isn't ready yet and I wld miss it too

MsHighwater · 07/03/2008 23:50

My dd was just over 11 months when I stopped. From just before 6 months, I dropped feeds one at a time as I began to introduce solids. I replaced the breastfeeds with follow on formula and, later, occasional drinks of juice. I dropped the daytime feeds first, not because I had problems with feeding in public - I didn't - but because I just found breastfeeding while lying in bed easiest and most comfortable. For a while, I kept up the bedtime feed and the first feed in the morning. Then I dropped the bedtime feed and, finally, the morning one.

I had already decided that I would prefer not to continue beyond a year - I'm not bothered about those who do but it just wasn't my choice - and, while I had a little pang at relinquishing that stage of her babyhood, I've never regretted it and, as far as I can tell, neither has she.
