FAO formula feeding mums

DS is bottle fed on Aptamil. I noticed yesterday in Tesco that Hipp Organic and Heinz manufacture formula milk significantly cheaper, in fact Aptamil is the priciest normal 'first milk' on the market and wondered if its case of you get what you pay for? I think I started on Aptamil because it mentions 'inspired by breastmilk' on the packet but really are they are all the same? any thoughts other formula mums?

hjconst, I bfed all my 3, but when ds1 needed the odd bottle of formula, I gave him Aptamil because MWs at the hospital he was born in said it was "closest to breastmilk". 11 years on and expecting my 4th baby, I now think this was probably due to very clever marketing on the part of Milupa who targeted health professionals very smartly as they were not allowed to advertise to mothers! You could maybe try one of the others and if your lo seems fine on it, I wouldn't worry too much about it what the packet says, they're never going to say their own product is inferior!

I used Farleys with my DS as my HV said there was no point spending more money than necessary as they were all "much of a muchness". That made sense to my frugal Scot's brain, so that's what I used. I've tried my mostly BF DD on Aptimil and Hipp as well as the Farley's and she seems to prefer it.

When I was changing over from bf to formula I bought Aptamil because it was the most expensive, still not sure whether it was guilt rather than a belief it was better...Used the Aptamil 2nd milk too, suited DD fine but once she was old enough I changed to Hipp follow on - tons cheaper and organic too.

I believe they are all much of a muchness - what they contain is defined by law so they will all be perfectly adequate - some people swap due to constipation issues etc but I don't think there's any proof than any brand is actually superior to another, and they probably wouldn't be allowed to tell us even if there was due to advertising restrictions!
