Cluster feeding or something else?

Have a six week old with a mild tongue tie. Has always fed every 30 mins with only an hour between feeds, maybe an hour and a half if lucky. Cries constantly when awake unless on the boob. Falls asleep on the boob. Feeds for over an hour at a time sometimes. Recently struggling with wind.

However the GP, HV, private lactation consultant we paid for (qualified) and midwives all said it's normal baby behaviour and yes he feeds frequently but seems to be gaining weight the first three weeks so nothing to worry about. It's tough on you but not on him.

Nipples have never hurt when he's feeding but are pretty sore after.

We started giving him 30ml or 60 ml of formula at night and in the morning. He sleeps really well for 2hrs sometimes.

Yesterday and today he's wanted to feed every minute he's awake. He only naps 20 mins at a time and wakes up easily crying. Making hunger ques. I'm doing my best to keep breastfeeding, but I've been in bed two days to feed him lying down. Usually I'm on the sofa all day.

Keep waiting for it to get better like everyone says it will. Going to try and get to a breastfeeding support group tomorrow.

But is feeding every moment of the day normal? Is this cluster feeding for week 6 growth spurt?

Has anyone advised you about having a tongue tie division? That sounds like very hard work for both of you regardless of what the midwives say!
