9 month old and pancakes

DS 9MO hasn't had toast or pancakes yet. I've been hesitant I must admit. He has the pincer grip and eats most other finger foods in smaller bite size pieces.

When introducing pancakes, do you think it's best to serve like strips to begin with or go straight for smaller pieces?

Strips x

Thankyou! I have been hesitant because he tends to stuff any 'fingers' of food into his mouth. Still hasn't quite grasped the concept of smaller bites. And thought to myself I'm really not sure if he's quite ready, but we have to start somewhere!

We'll get there.. eventually 😆

At 9 months they recommend cutting into squares as they just shove a whole strip in. Mine did and I was terrified of him choking. If he's got good pincer grip then the squares are much better

So, I tried strips and he stuffed the whole thing in. Cut into little squares and was fine 😆

I guess each baby is different but he just doesn't understand little bites with strips. No idea why

@DunderMifflinInc mine was exactly the same and though I worried he'd take a square and choke on it too he never did. It's brilliant when they love it in squares cuz some foods just don't lend themselves easily to strips😆 glad it worked for you 😊

@DunderMifflinInc @Devilsmommy Just a note to say thank you both so much for this thread! My little one is 9 months today and she absolutely loves her food but everything she can get hold of gets shoved straight in and the strips of toast etc. have been really worrying me. I think we'll go straight to squares too! Xx

Devilsmommy · 11/10/2023 14:05

@Hana89 honestly it's such a relief when you do the squares. Watching them shove a whole strip in is heart in the throat panic. Glad that the thread helped someone else too. Let us know how she goes😊

DunderMifflinInc · 11/10/2023 14:59

@Devilsmommy thanks again for the help!

@Hana89 try smaller squares. I cut mine almost the size of a pinky finger nail then slowly increased the size 😁 xx
