8 Week Old - Dirty Nappy Frequency

Hello everyone! 👋

I have a question about dirty nappies and my DD2. She was 8 weeks old on Friday and for a few weeks prior had stopped pooping after every feed (and sometimes going for days at a time without but eventually having an explosive nappy). Throughout it all she’s been content and no other worries so it just seemed to be her new rhythm. HV and GP said all normal too.

Now, over the past few days she is going more regularly again - once per day than yesterday 3 times! The nappies looked normal for her apart from the 3rd one which I would have said was a bit on the runny side, but it’s so hard to tell with BF poop!

We had a particularly hot day here yesterday and she did feed a lot, I’m wondering if it’s down to more watery milk? I was up to high doh all night worrying about a stomach bug, but no other symptoms or fever. She was maybe a bit unsettled but slept really well at night. Could it be something I ate? I’ve been wracking my brains!

Yes Dd used to get more poos when it was hot. No idea what caused it.

Have you had any really spicy food recently? Or anything with lots of onions in? They seemed to cause a reaction to Dd.

If she’s not got a temp, isn’t in obvious pain, is alert when awake and still feeding well I wouldn’t worry too much.

It’s all perfectly normal for a BF baby. I fed three and with my first I did worry about pooing and everything else, lol, it’s natural to worry. What you describe sounds absolutely ok, especially as your baby is settled and sleeping well. You’re doing just great.

Thanks so much for your reply @Ostryga! Yes I had both spicy food (a few times) and onions at the weekend!

Interesting to know that your DD pooped more in hot weather too. So much to worry about! 😂

Thanks @Robotalkingrubbish for your lovely reply. After a night of worry I am feeling super emotional this morning and your comment made me feel better. Worrying is my forte it seems 😂
