teeth eek! help please!

My 8 month old ds has one large front tooth, he has bitten me a few times now, last night and just now at bed time, I pulled him off with an ouch and he started crying, when i tried to latch him on again, he bit me again - I dont know what to do now.....

my dd is 8 months too and i had this problem, i just take her off by putting my little finger in the cornr of her mouth then try again.

it does pass though

I was having a hell of a time with ds until someone on here told me to take him off and sit him on the floor facing away from me for a minute or so then try again. He screamed but after a couple of times he got the idea. Problem was solved within a day.

Happened to me too and lasted about a week. I shouted ouch and pulled out everytime and she got the message.

Having exactly the same prob with DS2 at the moment (9 months). taking him off the boob (finger in side of mouth) does seem to work. Will try Indith's suggestion if it happens again!

Does your LO smile at you when they've done it?!

I heard a really good tip on here some time ago - don't pull them off as it hurts more and can cause nipple trauma, and some babies find the drama/shouting exciting. I know my DS used to laugh when I shouted out!

Instead push their face gently but firmly INTO the boob. They hate it because they can't breath and they automatically unlatch.

This worked for me and my DS, but be warned, it I found it often starts up again when they get another batch of teeth and each time he had to be re-taught not to do it.

ooh sympathy to you NT, i remember the pain of that, it made me squeal, which ds laughed at. I think at the time he didn't know what do with these new toothy things but soon became more gentle as he realised it was stopping him getting his yumyum!

I got that advice from Indith - DS wasn't doing it deliberately, was as surprised and upset as me! It lasted 2 feeds - the 3rd was fine and have been OK since, although I can feel it since he got his top teeth as well!
Took the nipple shields I had sent DH out for back to Boots
