How to prepare neocate easily?

I’ve just bought some neocate from boots, frankly out of sheer desperation because the GP can’t see us until Tuesday to prescribe any hypoallergenic formula despite suspecting delayed CMPA. Boots didn’t have any pepti 1 to try first.

anyway, how can I make it easier? We use a prep machine at the moment and the instructions say to boil and cool for at least 30 mins until it’s warm but not hot essentially. Obviously I can use a flask for the day / night feeds but the first feed of the day will be interesting unless I wake up 1 hour earlier (not that I sleep anyway!)

Those instructions sound the same as for making normal formula so I can't see why you couldn't use the perfect prep for the new formula too

Ah I read it as cool for a least 30 mins so it’s warm to touch but not hot whereas hipp which we use now says no longer than 30 mins to leave it to cool so assume that’s to keep it hot to kill the bacteria

It's absolutely vial stuff. So hope he takes it!

@Toddlerteaplease oh god is it? He seems to like the taste of omeprazole so hopefully will like that, will report back tomorrow when we do our first one.

Yep. I'm a paediatric nurse so we use it a lot. It absolutely stinks as well!

We just make it up like a normal feed. Some babies prefer it really cold. So that's worth a try if he won't drink it warm/ room temperature.

We use this for cmpa. Just used cool boiled water. I have a smart kettle that boils to 100 degrees and then it goes down to 40degrees, perfect drinking temp

Vanilla essence will help with the taste. You get used to the smell

I'd try the prep machine and if it makes it lumpy, just make up with cold water and feed immediately. The main issue with making up with not-hot water is if there's any contamination in the powder, but the risks of this are minimised as long as the made up formula is not sitting around for ages.
