Reflux formula and projectile vomit/bright yellow nappies?! Advice!

Just posted this in parenting but then found here and thought it was more appropriate.

nappy descriptions below, apologies 😅.

Hello. I’m going to ring my health visitor on Monday but in the meantime would appreciate any advice on this.

DS is 7 weeks old and formula fed. We were using cow and gate and perfect prep machine. He was born four weeks early weighing 4lb 12oz. He is now 8lb 9b and HV on Tuesday was extremely happy with his weight gain.

Anyway, he has been suffering with what I thought was constipation, going red in the face, grunting and not have any poo’s for 3/4 days. When he did go, the nappy was normal soft, yellow seedy. He also was bringing up milk all the time, clothes constantly soaking and being sick about an hour after his feeds.
He was doing his grunting noises and going red when HV was here and she said she doesn’t think he is constipated as his nappies would not be soft, she thinks from watching him he has reflux and it’s heartburn which is making him uncomfortable, which left me feeling like the worlds worst mum that he was suffering like that and I just thought he needed a poo!
She suggested we switch to reflux milk so started on Wednesday with cow and gate reflux and for one day we literally had a different baby! It was amazing, no sick and he had one normal nappy.

Fast forward 24 hours and I don’t know what’s happened. Yesterday he has projectile and I mean projectile vomited after two of the bottles. He’s also filled his nappy pretty much straight after EVERY bottle with bright yellow iluminous, extremely watery poo.

I’m so worried he’s going to lose the weight he has gained since being born.
DP wants to switch his milk back but I think we need to persevere. Could it be his body getting used to it? Has anyone else had this?
I didn’t have any of this with DD…until we found out she had an egg allergy. Which has for me thinking I hope he doesn’t have a milk intolerance/allergy. 😩

ANY insights appreciated.
Thank you x

Our ds was born 5 weeks early. Initially he was on sma and breast milk. By 6 weeks he went only formula. We were switching between mamia and cow&gate depending where we shopped thinking it’s all the same so it didn’t matter. It turned out when he was on cow&gate he would be sick quite a bit (sometimes projectile, sometimes just sick) and also go 2-3 days before pooing.
We then tried only sticking with mamia for a while and he’s being sick less (mostly isn’t unless we lie him down too soon), and pooing mostly every 24hrs. On occasion he will go 2 days. We had the very full and runny nappies as well for a while but that occured on both brands. Have you tried a different formula brand? You could try hipp, kendamil/aptimil, mamia, sma? If you do switch try it for 10-14 days to allow time to see if it worked. Of course it might just be that our ds is getting older and maturing more (he’s now 4 months old). We still use c&g or sma readymade for days out but stick to mamia at all other times.

@Blue2020 Thank you so much for your reply! I’m glad you found something which worked for your ds!
we persevered over the weekend and within 48 hours there was a massive change. He now is a lot more settled, no sick and normal nappies! Soo relieved. Thank you for your advice as I was ready to switch milks again just didn’t know which one to turn to next 🤦🏽‍♀️😅

@cookiedough86 ah that’s good to hear, glad your ds has improved. Hopefully he stays ok on that formula. If ever you are worried though you could ask the hv or gp. I don’t know what’s normal and what isn’t.
