I have a (possibly silly!) question about bottle feeding. Background: baby was seven weeks on Monday, though was born at 34w5d, and was in hospital for his first two weeks, during which he was first tube and then bottle fed. All breast milk - he had colostrum (mine), then a couple of days of donor milk while I waited for my milk to come in, and since then I’ve been pumping like no-one’s business to keep him supplied! He’s now taking 90-100ml per feed, roughly every three hours across the day.
Where I’m struggling a bit is wondering whether I need to anticipate an increase in his appetite and, if so, when/if he’ll need more. I feel like if he was breastfeeding he could just up his intake himself (ie. feed for longer), and am very aware that with a bottle he’s relying on me to work it out! At the moment he finishes each feed, doesn’t spit up, but doesn’t fuss or look for more either, and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies, so I am working on the basis he’s getting enough. Will there come a point at which he’ll just become noticeably hungrier?
(Related: is he likely to feed every three hours for the foreseeable? It’s not dreadful but factoring in time to pump as well a slightly longer sleep would be appreciated!)
