Is this reflux - help!

Hi all,

My DD is almost 12 weeks mixed fed (although mainly BF now as has been refusing bottles) and for past 3-4 weeks she has been crying through some of her breast feeds. She will pull on and off for a few minutes before screaming/going red faced. It's awful to watch. The strange thing is she mainly does this like clockwork through her mid morning feed and evening feeds. Usually she will cry herself to exhaustion then will drink an hour later.
GP has prescribed omerazapole, this is second night if trying it although it's hard to make her take this.
Has anyone else experienced this? Feedings are really making me anxious as I hate feeding her around friends or family now (will end up a recluse!)
Any advice or thoughts much appreciated 🙏

Is she unsettled at other times? Babies with reflux are usually hugely unsettled after a feed and rarely fall asleep.

It's more likely that she may be a little frustrated with the flow if she's been mix fed up till now.

Have you thought of trying Breast Compressions?

@Naters3232 any improvement with the omerazapole?

It has been a long time for me but could it be a supply issue if it is just at those two feed times? Usually with reflux it is all feeds. Ds2 had severe reflux, by 12 weeks he was feeding as if he was a newborn, had teeny amounts of milk (bottle fed by this stage) and arched his back when refusing feeds. I couldn't lie him down either.

It could be reflux which is why the bottle refusal ie that feed might be a faster delivery system depending on what bottles you are using. I know it is easier said than done but try to relax going into a feed. Make a conscious effort (been there, done that) and keep a log of symptoms. Film the popping off and red face to show to a GP, far easier if they can see it rather than describing it. This is what we did, although he is now a strapping 17 year old, I can still remember that really clearly.

Could you try to introduce the bottle to that mid morning feed? Just trying to be helpful in seeing if it is a supply issue at that point depending on how many feeds she has had before that mid morning one.

Hi both thank you for your replies and sorry for the late response!

Turns out it was reflux, omerazapole has worked a miracle although had to keep adjusting the dose and time of day given as it did give DD wind and constipation.

I also went to a breastfeeding support group and have a HV watch a feed (she felt I also have a heavy let down) but baby seems to have adjusted now - sometimes I pull her off before she chokes hand express and pop her back on.
