Colief and pooing

My baby is six weeks old and has been struggling with wind since he was born. We seem to have finally found a solution with colief he is no longer upset and seems to be a completely different baby finishing his feeds really well and settling easier. We have been using it for 3 days now and he is having about 10 poos a day which are a little watery just concerned about how much he is pooing has anyone experienced this and is it just his body getting used to it so should I persevere or do I stop using them?

Is he still comfortable? I'm not sure if you're FFing or BFing but if it's the latter then pooing this often at that age can be totally normal.

Hi @Leigh93 glad the Colief is working for you. It saved my life a few years ago.

As PP said if he is still comfortable and esp if he is breastfeed then the frequent poos wont be because of colief I don think. All I would add is just be quick with nappy changes and use a barrier cream so that you don’t have end up with nappy rash.

Sorry for typos - I hate this phone!

Thank you for the reply. He is formula fed it got to the point where every time he farted there would be a little poo in his nappy so I lowered the dosage to two drops instead of four every feed and the constant poos stopped so I do think it’s the colief that caused it but now he’s getting tummy ache and upset again so really unsure what to do I would much rather change a million nappy’s than him being upset. But is it ok for him to be pooing so much if so I will up it again to the four drops

Can I ask which formula he's on? Only there are a tonne of threads with babies being unsettled on Kendamil and Aptamil?

Leigh93 · 04/08/2023 11:34

he was on kendamil when he was first born I thought the milk was the problem at first so changed him to aptamil 🙈 do you think I need to try another formula?

Yeah I'd swap to a completely different one, a lot of babies seem more settled on Hipp Organic but not all obviously.

If that doesn't work you might be looking at either Tongue Tie or Cow's Milk Protein Allergy.

Rosebay2023 · 31/12/2023 08:39

Did you switch to Hipp organic and did it help?
my baby currently on kendamil and very unsettled at night, started colief yesterday so waiting for that to kick in.
many thanks

To be honest I wish I would have tried a couple other formulas first but we jumped straight to aptamil Pepti a hydrolysed prescription formula recommended by the health visitor due to his feeding issues and explosive poos and now have ended up on an amino acid formula SMA Alfamino as he just spiralled and went worse! But we paid private recently to go to a allergist who did a skin prick test and he was negative for dairy allergy so on dairy free formula for nothing but can’t swap now as would prob disagree with him! My advice would be to try another formula as my little one did also struggle with kendamil and depending on how old your baby is try and persevere until after 3-4 months as it is true when they say things get better by then

Looking for experience with Colief. Just started giving my 5 week old Colief as he has been having greenish mucousy/watery poos since i had a course of antibiotics 2-3 weeks ago. I'm wondering if they have upset his gut and caused a temporary lactose intolerance. Has anyone found it improved the poo constancy as I'm reading a lot about it causing looser stool.

Thanks Grin

If they've had antibiotics, have you tried a Probiotic?
