Formula and poonami

Hi all

I've recently weaned my 12 week old from BF to Aptamil for a number of reasons and he is now only BF during the night.

Baby now poos every 3 days on average and each time it's a poonami. He never seems in discomfort leading up to this tidal wave of poop.

Any suggestions? While I'm early in our formula 'journey' I've heard it's not always good to change formulas, is this true? Not sure whether I should wait to see if he settles down as he's only been on formula a couple of weeks or whether I should just change now.

We are going abroad in 2 weeks time so don't want any major changes to his diet to coincide with that.... but i also don't want a poonami on the plane if it can be helped!

Thanks

If he's comfortable but just having a huge poo every 3 days I personally would try swapping his formula. Don't try Cow & Gate as it's made in the same factory.

Which one were you thinking of swapping to?

Hi! With formula fed babies they do poo a lot and it's often poonami. I had to express feed my baby but he was mostly formula fed and then I couldn't produce anymore so he's only formula fed now. At the start he would have dirty nappies every single nappy change and then it was once at night and once in the day time and now he's pooping around 4 times a day. I just changed him at 3am and now I'm having to do another change at 6am. He's on aptamil currently. Any changes in their diet can make them poop more. I don't think there's much that can be done although I'm not 100% certain. I don't think changing his milk will do much

I haven't thought about which to swap to if I'm honest but it's good to know Cow and Gate are made the same!

I'll wait a bit longer to see if he settles down and then maybe after holiday try a different one on the off-chance it does make a difference.

I don't think I have a good enough supply to express feed him now and I stopped pumping a while ago because I found it hard with a 5yr old around as well as keeping a baby occupied - it felt like it was taking over my life a bit.

If only it was as simple as a straight forward reason for it!
