need advice re changing formula

My DD is nearly 3 months old, mostly bottle fed with a couple of breast feeds a day. She is currently on 'cow and gate comfort', but I was wondering whether to change over to something else - for the odd reason that her poo and any wind she passes is unbelievably smelly and not very baby like at all.

Now, my first baby was fed on Aptamil, and had no problems with the poo at all - seemed quite similiar to breast. The smell only started when he went on to solids.

The only reason why I put her onto C&G comfort was because a friend recommended it for 'colicky' babies. And I have to say, she is very content.

SHould I change? Im worried that the extreme smell signifies a poor quality milk or problems with digestions as she didnt smell when she was exclusively breast fed for the first few weeks. If so, do I just switch over or need I see a doctor (I dont see health visitors)

vannah, I doubt your doc will have a clue about the choice of formula milk.

If you don't like the results of comfort milk, then why not change??? I don't see the problem

Comfort uses potato as the starch ingredient and contains prebiotics and glucose syrup, too. Maybe it's some of this stuff that's making the difference to your baby. You could try calling the manufacturer's helpline, too.

DS's formula was SMA gold. He didn't have any probs with it

I found the formula with prebiotics (we tried Aptamil and Cow and Gate) made my dd's poo and wind smell really 'eggy' (mmmm lovely), it also made her poo really runny. We switched to Hipp organic, which doesn't have them and the windiness stopped ( she was constipated for a few days after changing though).

Agree with tiktok about the doctor, they won't know and in my case suggested weaning . Unfortunately with formula its a case of finding what suits your baby. Good luck

Agrre with tiktok, I would be very surprised if your GP could even name one formula let alone advise on he most suitable. Comfort will make your baby's poo smelly and runny but if she seems contented then there is no real need to change. Please don't read too much in to the "x formula was fine for my baby" suggestions as all babaies are different and for some reason they react differently to the slightest differences in formulas.
