Keep in mind I’m not sure how much of each bottle she actually drinks because a lot of milk pours out of her mouth while she’s suckling she soaks the Muslin clothes so this is the amount in the bottles I’ve given her today but just keep in mind about the milk pouring out of her mouth while she drinks, at 3:20 am she had 4oz at 6am she had 2.5oz and at 8am she had 2.5 oz but she kept rooting for more so I gave her an extra ounce of milk then another and then another so about 3 extra ounces, after that she had a 5oz bottle then another 2oz after that and then she had 2.5oz again and then just now she just had another 2.5oz so that’s how much she drank so far today 7 is usually her bed time so she doesn’t really wake up for feeds after that (unless it’s a middle of the night feed) so I have to wake her up myself usually I wake her up at 11pm for a feed she and normally has about 5oz for her 11pm feed she’s 10 weeks and 11.9lbs or 5.4kg

She should be having around 27 floz and she's had 25 so far? I think she's doing fine Wink

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto I’m not sure if she’s actually had that amount tho as so much milk leaks from her mouth while she’s having her feeds she soaks through the Muslin clothes.

If loads of milk is spilling out it sounds like the teet is either too fast for her or she possibly has a tongue tie. Are you pace feeding the bottles so it's a bit slower?

Lollibert · 19/07/2023 21:46

@Scottishskifun she can stick out her tongue so I don’t think it’s a tongue tie the teat is first flow, no matter what bottle I use it’s the same I’ve tried mam, nuby, nuk, Avent, Tommy tippy and now dr browns, all first flow and all the same with the milk leaking

Try pace feeding where the bottle is less upright.
She can still have a posterior tie but they are very difficult to diagnose only really a specialist can in infant feeding team etc and if she is gaining weight well then unlikely to refer you given she is bottle fed - it's a much bigger problem with bf babies.

I agree with the PP, there's a possibility that she's not forming a proper seal with teat because there's a possibility that she may have Tongue Tie.

Does she have any of these symptoms?

Lollibert · 21/07/2023 18:42

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto yes she does have many of these symptoms here are some images of her tongue one when she was crying what do u think? She’s always moving her tongue tho so never considered it I’ve never seen a baby move her tongue as much as she does she’s always thrusting it out

If she's gaining weight, you might not get a referral through the NHS but if she's showing symptoms and you have the funds, you could pursue a private assessment?

Milk matters, from the link offer a diagnostic service or you could look at finding a Tongue Tie Practitioner?
