Feeling run down post weaning

Since dd2 weaned about 3 weeks ago I have been constantly ill with viruses, colds and now conjuctivitis. When BF I was rarely ill, if dd caught a cold or bug I either got a very mild version or nothing at all. I have posted about this on another site and was suprised that a few of the other Mums there have experienced the same thing.

So what I am wondering is, is there something about BF that protects you from illness as well as your dc? Has anyone here experienced this?

One suggestion is that you are no longer getting your happy hormone so consequently you feel a little run down in comparison to how you usually feel.

Anyway, I was just interested to find out if anyone else had come across this or had an explanation for it?

Not sure why this, is but it's true for me too, DS2 stopped BF back in Nov and since then I've had cold after cold and then we've just had this vomiting virus thing too. Feeling OK ish now but all I can suggest is up your fruit and veg intake, cut back on alcohol, caffeine and chocolate [looks aghast at own suggestions] and try to rest. Could take vitamin supplements too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks RL - or I could get pregnant again, banish the hated periods and then BF for another 3 years ....hmmmm... or give up chocolate. Which would be easier?

I wonder if there is any research that shows a BF Mum is protected in some way?
