Can I wear a proper bra when breastfeding ?

I am going to be a bridemaid for my sister in May, when I will be 5.5 months pregnant and as I am still nursing my 18 month old DD, it is possible that I will still be feeding her then too.

The bridesmaid dress will have straps so I just need to go and get a bra for under it, all I have are nursing bra's. Can I go for an underwired or more structured bra, or would I be risking blocked ducts etc ? Or should I go for a new unwired nursing bra ?

Whatever bra I end up with, if DD is still feeding I'll have to go to the hotel room and undress to feed her, so I don't necessarily need a nursing bra.

I might x-post under style.

i'm 30 wks preggers with first baby, have 38E boobs, have very active and demanding job and wear a mixture of bras, some proper maternity and some underwired marks and sparks. i was properly fitted for them, they are very comfortable and to be honest i need the suport sometimes. i'm sure one day in a properly fitted underwired bra won't do yuo any harm, but obviously i've never breastfed so that's a factor for you. i would ensure the cups are pure cotton tho, to let your skin breathe.

I'm bf'ing, and wear a sports bra to the gym, and occasionally an underwired bra if I go out (about once, actually!), hasn't caused me any problems. hth Jx

i wore a proper bra after about 8 months i got so sick of the droopy maternity look. i think if you are going to be bridesmaid you definitely should wear a decent bra. you do risk block ducts and i definitely suffered a bit but top tips are

get fitted in a really good bra shop and go back a few days before hand to double check the fitting (your boobs will be all over the place at 5 months).

if you do get sore rush off and feed baby. a quiet hotel room is ideal cos at 5 months they start bobbing on and off the boob if anything of interest passes by.

take ibroprophen (sp?) if you are really sore. and have a good hot bath at the end of the night.

have a lovely time!
