Have you tried the Tesco beef and veg mince?

And if so, is it any good?

I like the idea of it, but wondered if it could be a load of rubbish?

Thanks.

I've not tried it, because I don't see the point.

If you want to use less meat, just use less meat.

If you want to hide vegetables, there are probably cheaper ways of doing that.

Hmmm thanks for your input. I'm not into 'hiding vegetables' so that's not why I'm asking. And it uses less meat, so surely if I want to use less meat I don't have to rule it out purely because I can use less meat in other ways?

Anyone tried it?

Yes. Kids can't tell the difference. Cheaper to grate carrots onion courgette etc into a pack of mince and mix well though portion and use/ freeze. They can't tell them either.

Tescos has a reviews section just check that

No idea of the answer to your question but you just reminded me we used to grate carrots into very cheap mince as students to bulk it out! It didn’t taste too bad from memory

floofbeansupreme · 03/07/2023 21:01

I used it this evening in a lasagne, not too bad, it's softer, but my dcs didn't point anything different.I only got it because it was a yellow sticker find, but I'd probably use it again Grin

OwlRightThen · 03/07/2023 21:06

It's kind of mushy.

ODFOx · 03/07/2023 21:36

It isn't so much less expensive than standard mince for what you get.
I have taken to adding a ton of green lentils to browned mince then re-freezing half instead of buying the veg mince.
I think the texture is a bit odd because it has sweet potato in: it wouldn't be so bad if it was just soffrito mix.

ODFOx · 03/07/2023 21:38

Tin of lentils, not ton!!

Peony654 · 03/07/2023 21:41

It has a worrying amount of ingredients. Could you just buy regular mince, add your own veg and a tin of lentils to bulk out

Startyabastard · 03/07/2023 21:42

I think it's a money saving exercise for Tesco with a guise of trying to make us healthier
