Bottle feeding breastfed baby

My baby is 6 days old and I am breastfeeding. Currently I am using a hakka to collect let-down milk from the other breast and I am getting about an oz each time. If I wanted to use this to feed my baby rather than freeze the milk, how do I go about this? Should I cup feed her or use a bottle?

Second question - she feeds roughly every 2-3 hours and sometimes she will only feed for about 7 minutes, other times 12 and sometimes about 17 minutes. Is 7 minutes enough? Once she’s done its very hard to get back back on the boob!

Congratulations on your new baby!

I probably wouldn’t bother trying to feed the spare milk; your baby should be getting what she needs direct from the breast. It is very early days and your body is adjusting to how much milk your baby needs, similarly, your baby is just getting going and won’t be in a routine. If she has plenty of wet nappies, and seems content after feeds, then I really wouldn’t worry about how long or how often she feeds. Breastfeeding can be for food, a drink or just for comfort, so the length of each feed will vary.

It will settle down eventually, but every baby is different and please remember, they haven’t read the books about what they ‘should’ be doing!

yeah i would let your supply build up before juggling between breast/bottle.Wait till a month when breastfeeding been established. You can freeze milk in breast milk storage bags for later. It can be tricky juggling breast/bottle as it can cause nipple confusion .So ideally just stick with breast keep the milk in the freezer just in case .Like when i breastfed my first at around 4 weeks she got really bad colic. So i mixed a little milk with a colic syrup in a bottle for her to take it

Babys juggle how long they want milk there is no set time ,of course she wants no more boob she is telling you i am done. You can try tickle their feet if they are falling asleep on the boob that can encourage eating but if shes flat out refusing then you did great .You sound like your on top of it all

My baby only fed fed for about 5-10 minutes was just a really efficient feeder. The amazing thing about breastfeeding is that it just figures out what's enough and how much to produce. Personally I'd juts BF and freeze the extra milk as you might want to use it later

Yes I think that’s long enough if she seems full. My DS only fed for 5 mins - the milk seemed to come out quite fast.
