Can you over feed a breastfed baby?

Had an appointment with the gp who nicely joked about how big he’s getting , he’s 5 months and I then said he’d been in 6-9 months clothes for a few weeks. The dr mentioned that they can be over fed and when I said the health visitor said I couldn’t with ebf he said all babies can put too much weight on and there is no harm in letting them a little longer to make sure they actually want food. My little 5 month old never cries for food or anything else for that matter. And goes 7 hours without a feed at night and around every 3 hours or so in the day I read his cues and feed on demand. Should I not be doing this now he’s older?

He was born at 9lb (despite growth scans saying he was going to be little) and alwahs been on the 85th for weight and 97 for height. Though the health visitor hasn’t been for a couple months

the 6-9 month clothes are very spacious too especially on top , however if they are leggings or fitted trousers his calves and thighs are very chonky and struggle to get them on. So is the health visitor right I can’t overfeed?

thank you in advance

No you can't, what a load of nonsense. My EBF DS was huge at 5months, rolls everywhere!! He was also a very happy baby who rarely cried, and he's now a very normal sized toddler. Keep feeding on demand!

You absolutely can't overfeed on breast milk, what a load of rubbish.

My girls were incredibly chunky babes and then the moment they started moving it all dropped off despite still being breastfed.

Keep at it, you're obviously doing brilliantly!

Thank you both that made me feel much better, appreciate it 😊

You can overfeed on breast milk via a bottle but not directly from the breast.

A friend's DD was EBF via breast and looked like the Michelin man. Honestly never seen such a huge baby. Perfectly normal sized child now.
