Comfort milk baby drinking less

my baby is nearly a month today, in the beginning she suffered with a bit of constipation but it was just a few days then when she hit 3 weeks she became constipated again so I changed her to cow and gate comfort milk. Shes now been great. She’s always taken feeds quite slow I started her at 4 ounce and recently upped to 5. She just seems to drink her feeds really slowly and just wondering if comfort milk will make it even slower and fill her up more because of the thickness? I have tried different teets when she was on the normal milk but she would just keep choking (I tried medium flow and vari flow) so maybe I’ll try vari flow again with this new comfort milk. She always seems to want to a break between bottles too but another thing is on the second go of the bottle she becomes fussier and will cry/struggle. So just wondering if it’s normal for her to drink this slow or anything I can do the size 1 teats for Tommy tippee are slow flow which just seems too slow for her but any other is too fast. Any advice would be great thanks!

Hi there it might be that she has reflux. Dose she gag, cough or hiccup a lot? You could look up the symptoms and see what you think. Even if shes not sick a lot, like my son she may have silent reflux. It’s seems to be really common as Iv met a lot of parents at babygroup that seem to be dealing with the same thing. At the beginning my son was the same, took ages drinking I tried everything new bottles/ teats sometimes would regress with the amount he was drinking. The symptoms seemed to peak at 10 weeks sometimes the milk can come up so fast it stops him from breathing for just a few seconds until it goes back down. He also has CMPA he suffered with chronic nasal congestion and itching, projectile vomiting, conjunctivitis, bottle refusal, chronic cough and diarrhoea and constipation along with the reflux symptoms. Sometimes it would seem like he had a really horrible taste in his mouth. He’s 4 months now and after a change to a prescribed milk he doing so much better. He still has symptoms of reflux and only drink 4oz but every 2-3 hrs. Try not to lay her flat straight after a bottle and small feeds often. Try and make feeding time very relaxed put some chilled music on. Don’t stress over how much she’s having if she is showing signs that she doesn’t want anymore just give her a dummy (if she has one). If the symptoms of reflux sound familiar then you can book an appointment with your Gp who will probably prescribe Gaviscon but I warn you this causes chronic constipation another medication they prescribe is omeprazole. I urge you to do some research before you decide on medication, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it but I feel GPS are to quick to prescribe. The national institute for care an excellence (nice) is a good place to go for information. Good luck 🤞

Hi looking for Advise or if anyone is experiencing the same thing. My 8 week old only drinks 2oz bottles she has reflux but is now on omeprazole to help and her symptoms have improved however she can still only manage to drink 2oz of milk every 2-3 hours HELP!

Hi I wouldn’t stress my baby was the same and she is 6 months now and on food but even before food she only ever got up to 5 oz and sometimes she will have 6. As long as she is putting on weight do not worry. Also have you tried infacol? I started to use that in her bottles and it really helped the reflux and always give the bottle warm as I found cold made her reflux worse. I believe they outgrow the reflux as my baby girl doesn’t seem to suffer anymore unless the milk is cold. It’s really hard at the stage your at but it won’t last forever try not to stress and any concerns I will try my best to help you with I’m only a first time mum so just learning as I go along!

Hi thank you for replying to me, yes my lottle one is the same she will actually only drinkna warm bottle. I've tried infacol when I thought she has colic but it didn't really make much difference at the time, because she's now on omeprazole I'm unsure if I can give her anything else I will have to discuss with the HV. She is gaining weight but not following her centile she's dropped from the 91st to the 75th which is causing the concern. I put her on kendermil comfort milk and thought maybe she didn't like it 😕 hopefully it all settles soon.
