Baby hasn't pooped in 3 days

Hi, my little one is 6 months old and he's ebf but we've just started weaning. He's had a few small bits and pieces, most of which has been plastered over the highchair house and him, but he's eaten a little bit of everything given. He's still breastfeeding as much as ever and I've been conscious to offer because of the hot weather. However he hasn't had a dirty nappy in coming up on 3 days now and even then the last one he had was very small. He normally does large and very wet ones at least once a day so it's not like him. He seems in decent enough form and doesn't seem overly uncomfortable but his wee tummy is starting to feel a little bloated. He's been very windy as well, passing lots of wind when he does tummy time. I've tried feeding more, tummy massage, bicycle legs, putting him in the bath but nothing has helped so far. Any suggestions?

I've read that it can be normal for a bf baby to go up to a week but I'm not sure if that still applies when weaning has started- when do you worry?

Yes I think this is normal. If he isn't uncomfortable then just keep doing what you're doing.
I remember my son backed up a bit when we moved on from watery fruit and veg to more dense foods but he eventually went on day 5 I think with no bother at all.

Stew some apples and/or pears, with sugar, give to him when cool. That should sort things out.

My DD had a lot of constipation at the start of weaning. It sorted itself out in the end. If your digestive system has only ever had to deal with milk it must be a bit of a shock when all this other stuff starts coming through!

I'd suggest lots of water, esp given the heat, and if it goes on longer than a week or starts to seem uncomfortable speak to HV or GP.

Sounds perfectly normal to me too. You could try to give him some high water foods like water melon, strawberries, broccoli or cauliflower.

Thanks so much everyone, I tred him with some prunes and my god it was effective.

Good news, well if you can call dealing with a poonami good news? Grin

I'd still off some water rich foods for a few days, especially whilst it's so hot and maybe stay away from sweet potatoes, rice, oats and bananas for a few days.
