Hi my 10 day old baby has developed a rash on both cheeks it seems to go up and down and I’m wondering is this a sign of a allergy to the milk she’s drinking (hipp readymade formula )
she seems to get quite windy when drinking and cries out abit in pain ?

What are her dirty nappies like? Any other symptoms? Is she content overall?
I wouldn't say that looks like an allergic reaction although my baby started like that. I would keep an eye on it, moisturize a lot and make sure to wipe face and moisturize. Congratulations on your lovely baby.

Her nappies are fine plenty wet and normal colour poos but what’s making me think is that my older child had the same rash on face and ended up switching to sma lactose free as she was in agony and pooing such dark green a doctor said it was meconium and she was 3 months ! I just don’t want it to escalate to the point my other daughter was in total agony bless her x and she’s acting a little bit fussier from when she first come home crying like she has shooting pains in her belly after bottle but when she’s settled in crib she seems okay ? Hi there,

So sorry you're going through this. I experienced exactly the same with my son and eventually we realised that he had a cows milk protein allergy. Prior to working this out we tried various SMA and Hipp milks but our son was still very uncomfortable and rashy after feeds.

Initially we were given SMA Althera specialist milk but he was still struggling so we moved into Neocate which has been perfect - his symptoms have completely gone. Unfortunately it isn't the nicest thing for him to drink, it's very watery and smells like potatoes! We mix it with some Cow and Gate carobel to thicken it slightly.

We really had to push out doctor to give him these milks as they're prescription only and quite expensive, unfortunately you may find that you have to do the same.

Hope that helps in some way and best of luck!

Sam

The prescribed milks can be hard to get. There are some over the counter ones like wysoy that aren't cows milk based. If your doc can prescribe though that's the best although the nutramigen one we have smells funny my DD loves it!! From the pic though I would t go straight to cows milk allergy.

@Dbf123 how's baby doing?

Dbf123 · 02/06/2023 17:46

She was fine in the end just a patch of eczema I think mentioned it to HV and she just said to keep a look out for more signs like poo being mucusy and hers wasn’t she seemed to settle down after a few days so I think she was just abit windy ?? X

That's great, do keep an eye on it and make sure to moisturize. Also make sure to use a barrier cream like Vaseline around the mouth to protect her broken (eczema) skin before feeding.
