Hi all. I’m in a bit of a bad place with my 14 week old and really in need of some support. What do I do?
he has CMPA and formula fed on SMA alfamino but his reflux is horrendous. I currently thicken his milk with gaviscon and he has been on omeprazole for 5 weeks now. 6 days ago we increased his dose so it’s possible we are experiencing the acid battle again but the volume of sick is insane. He is on his 6th outfit today as they are drenched through and I am in tears most days, don’t feel I can take him to baby groups and I find myself wanting to go back to work to get away from it. Any suggestions on where I can go from here?

Aww it's so hard with a reflux baby. We put off havjng our second because I was so traumatised by it, luckily second time around we haven't had the same problems.

The good news is it gets better as they get older usually. Our gp suggested weaning at 4 months, maybe worth speaking to the doctor about this. We just did baby rice. It didn't help massively but did a little.

If you want to get to baby groups then don't feel like you can't because of the reflux. You won't be the only mum of a reflux baby there. I always took lots of extra clothes and muslins. Always put baby in a decent bib. If you find the right group people will just want to support you. Also with the weather getting nicer, just getting into the fresh air helps. We switched over to the older fixture onto the pram so that we could angle baby upwards slightly and she then enjoyed being in the pram.

It's so intense when you're in it but it does get better!

can I ask what symptoms of CMPA your LO had? Iv had a nightmare with my baby refusing milk , reflux, constant nasal congestion, coughing, gaging, not sleeping, reflux ect. My doctor has been terrible, Iv been told it’s behavioural, constantly been told it’s a virus. I was prescribed gavison but found this made him gag even more, then I was given omeprazole but didn’t give this to him. I changed to a sma anti reflux milk and symptoms got worse. He’s now on aptimil pepti 1 recommend by the HV and it’s like having a new baby, but my doctor want prescribe it so for now I’m buying it 😳. My best friends baby had CMPA and aptimil pepti didn’t work in-fact she had to try 5 milks before she found the right one. I always thought that the reflux was a symptom of the CMPA and getting that under control would help. Obviously the milk is thinner so more likely to come up.
