Fussy cluster feeding

I have an almost 6 week old DS, thankfully breastfeeding is going well however the past few days he has been cluster feeding from about 6pm-11pm every night. I know this is normal but during these feeding sessions he becomes increasingly fussy at the breast, sucking for a few seconds then pulling off screaming then frantically rooting to go back on this goes on and on and on until he passes out from tiredness. I take him off wind him, switch sides etc but nothing makes any difference. He only does it during these marathon feeding sessions, feed beautifully during the day and over night.

I have no concerns regarding milk supply etc he pees and poos plenty and is putting on lots of weight (possibly excessive weight!)

Sounds normal to me, I had 2 that did this for a few weeks at a time. Maddening, but it does stop eventually, milk supply settles in to what they need. Get yourself settled down with drinks and a book/tv remote, and go with the flow. Best of luck!

Yes, totally normal if a little frustrating.

Kellymom have some good information on it here.

Congratulations too WinkFlowers

Yeah that all sounds right but there's no doubt it's exhausting and can be really frustrating. I found that acceptance was the only way! Focus on perfecting your set up - long phone charger, TV remote, lots of drinks and snacks.

Oh and don't worry about weight gain - you can't overfeed a breastfed baby. Your DS is doing exactly what he needs to do to keep your milk supply up to meet his needs.

Feels like it will never end but it will end as suddenly as it began. Sounds like you're doing a great job - keep going!
