Hi all

just looking for your advice/opinion please. My boy is 13 weeks, we started him on cow and gate and he was constipated and I suspected suffered reflux so we went into comfort milk. Also suffered with colic and cried non stop.

2 weeks ago went back onto normal cow and gate first infant milk, since then he has been very windy, very loud and a lot of them but doesn’t seem in pain from them. Also started to cry on the bottle and never finishes a bottle anymore. His hands are everywhere and do knock the bottle so not sure whether that’s not helping. He never napped well during the day but past 2 weeks has got better

but his poo is like a mustard colour and is more liquid than when on the comfort milk. On the comfort milk it was a khaki colour and almost like a paste whereas now it’s mustard and very loose. As a FTm I don’t know whether this is normal poo for a formula fed baby? It looks loose and today was stringy and looked mucusy

thank you

I had this with my daughter 10 years ago and I got this answer from here.
It’s perfectly normal and the stringy stuff is mucous because he might have a slight cold and being a baby he’s unable to blow his nose or cough it up so he swallows it and poos it out.

Looks completely normal to me, my DD is 11 months old and struggled with colic. She was FF and her nappy's looked like this, could also be teething causing mucus, my daughter started teething at 13 weeks - I could share with you countless photos I've taken that would match

@RWI22 i did think it could maybe be teething but I have no clue. His hands are in his mouth a lot and his sleep has got a bit worse overnight. Tonight his poo smelt like vinegar really bad but he did have his jabs today so could be that or the rotavirus coming through.

what did you use for teething if you don’t mind me asking and if anything particularly helped? He can’t hold teething rings etc yet.

thank you

Well we put the teething rings in the fridge for a few minutes but teething is just something that happens and they get grizzly so we as parents just put up with it. It’s a painful process for a baby literally a tooth forcing its way through a gum. A damp cold flannel around the cheeks and over the forehead before bed and swaddling them helps but that’s a very old method. I’d recommend bath and feed then sleep with some very calm music before settling down then if you’re breast feeding and they wake up in the middle of the night just feed and cool them down. If Baby is running a temperature as they can sometimes do when feeding let them suck a tiny bit of Calpol off your fingertip.

Alone the poo looks normal in a happy baby. It’s the other symptoms you mentioned. It’s possible that he could be teething, babies do teeth early but the symptoms you mention sound like reflux symptoms/colic possibly CMPM but that really depends on other symptoms and doesn’t sound like teething. When you say never napped? Is that due to being uncomfortable?
