how do you express by hand?

er, that's it! If someone has a link to images/video or can describe it clearly that would be great. I ma going back to work in a few months + will still be bfing my dd. She will be 11 months old + I reckon I will need to express once during work. I would like to avoid bringing a breast pump to work if possible so want to have a go at hand expressing.

i found it easier in bath if im remembering properly.

I found it a lot more effective than a breast pump, but did find that the milk squirted everywhere and also that after a few days my breasts felt very bruised and sore - maybe I wasn't doing it properly though!

this was my other worry - emerging from a lunchbreak with mysterious wet spots all over my top! guess i better get practicing now.

Chibi - would you consider using a discreet hand pump like the Avent Avensis? It really is quite quiet and the rose shaped top means it gently massages the breast whilst expressing to encourage milk and let down.

i have this pump luciemule and it is worn in to the point of making loud squeaks. i have visions of myself disappearing into a stationery cupboard and then rhythmic squeaks issuing forth, disconcerting passers by and making me snicker and lose focus.

Are you not going to buy another one then or didn't you like it?

nah, it still works...i'm just not keen on squeaking at work, plus the washing options are limited. well facilities exist but i am not wanting to have the 'it's a breastpump/ yes i am still breastfeeding' convo every day with some random colleague while i wash it.

i will probably use the pump to express at home in the evenings.
